duration_icon18 weeks

Chicago is our hometown and we love this race! There's nothing like running with 45,000 other people through the loop and feeling the energy of that crowd...plus the joy of a Chicago hot dog when you finish. 🌭 Let's just hope the weather cooperates this year!

Join us for 18 weeks of marathon training to get you ready for an incredible experience on October 10, 2021. Training kicks off on June 14th!

Chicago Marathon training includes

  • 18 weeks of easy runs, long runs and cross training to increase your overall fitness and endurance while building mileage slowly.

  • Speed workouts once a week and marathon pace practice to train your body and mind in how it feels to hold your race pace.

  • Benchmark workouts to measure your progress every 5 weeks.

  • Advice on long runs, nutrition, hydration, gear, and recovery - the important stuff that will make or break your training!

Support from your coach

Coach Shane is here for you during training:

  • Texts from Marcus for questions, advice, and motivation

  • Group chat with your coach and other marathoners to discuss training and cheer each other on

  • Coach office hours twice a month to ask questions and prepare for what's ahead

Who it's for

I first discovered running as a way to relieve the stress of my exams in high school. I'm a big advocate of running for mental health and believe in the power of using running to keep those mental demons at bay.

”I absolutely LOVE this program and am so thankful you launched it as I was planning to train for my second marathon."
I absolutely LOVE this program and am so thankful you launched it as I was planning to train for my second marathon. The Bird app is super easy to use, and i love that I get a text reminder to log if I forget - and that it does it for me based on my response! I also really appreciate that you incorporate strength into the shorter run days. I have been following RunnersWorld’s training plan, but always felt confused on when I could add strength and how much. This plan totally fits my life!

"Thank you Micah for helping me achieve both my half marathon(s) and full marathon goals!"
Thank you Micah for helping me achieve both my half marathon(s) and full marathon goals! I appreciated you listening to my needs and from there customizing plans to fit my lifestyle and ability. You were the perfect coach throughout too…not too much, but enough to keep me on track and motivated. Your experience was valued and gave credibility to all the advice. You were even there for me as I was walking the expo floor helping me with my pacing questions and the text mid-marathon telling me to slow my pace at mile 12 was above and beyond! Thank you for being a great coach and partner in this life-long “bucket list” experience.

"Working with Coach Joaquin made things interesting and fun so I didn't give up like I normally would."
Here’s a little bit about my experience in Coach Joaquin’s team: I found coach Joaquin through some friends after signing up for a 5k run. I had done 5k's before but never really put my all into it. Working with Coach Joaquin made things interesting and fun so I didn't give up like I normally would. Working with Coach Joaquin helped me find a way to include running/jogging into my fitness routine, when before I avoided, and hated it. I can now say I look forward to running/jogging, very weird to say that out loud. Mp3 days are the best...if you want to know what that means I guess you will have to join his team!

The regular text check-ins and weekly virtual happy hours were the accountability that I was looking for and demonstrated that the coaches really cared about helping you get to where you wanted to be in the program.
Years ago, I used to participate (run/walk) in 5ks to half marathons, but it’s been at least 5 years since my last one. I joined the Bird Running Group to help motivate me and to have some accountability to get moving again. The January run club was the perfect fit! All the coaches were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! The guidance and weekly run plans were clear and provided you with specific instructions for beginners, intermediates, and experts. I was impressed and excited at how far I’d come from the beginning to the end of the program! The regular text check-ins and weekly virtual happy hours were the accountability that I was looking for and demonstrated that the coaches really cared about helping you get to where you wanted to be in the program. I can’t wait to sign up for more of the Bird programs!
